Fellowship Program

Training in Optometry is one of the flagship programs.
Rotary Eye institute offers training in various Sub – Specialties of optometry:
Observer ship opportunities are offered in select sub- specialties of Optometry. These programs are offered preferably to practicing optometrist for a duration of 1 or 3 months.

OBSERVERSHIP (1 month)
OBSERVERSHIP (3 month) (specific sub-specialty)

  1. Cataract Investigations (1 month or 3 months)

Objectives:

  • To observe and identify cataract in patients.
  • To understand different investigations performed in cataract patients
  • To understand treatment protocol
  • To observe cataract surgery

2. Glaucoma and Retina (1 month or 3 months)

 Objectives:

  • To observe different types of glaucoma and retinal conditions in patients.
  • To understand different investigations performed in glaucoma and retinal condition patients.
  • To make appropriate referrals

3. Pediatric Optometry (1 month or 3 months) 

Objectives:

  • To observe and understand refraction in pediatric patients.
  • To understand different investigations performed in pediatric patients.
  • To make appropriate referrals
  • To involve in school screening

4. Contact lens and low vision (3 months)

Objectives:

  • To observe and understand selection of contact lens
  • To observe and understand selection of low vision patients
  • To understand different investigations performed in contact lens and low vision patients.
  • To understand fitting methodologies in different types of contact lenses.
  • To make appropriate referrals.

5. Vision therapy (1 month)

Objectives:

  • To observe and understand non-strabismic binocular vision conditions.
  • To understand normative values
  • To understand treatment protocol
  • To make appropriate referrals

Long Term Fellowship: 6 months- 40000 INR (No Accommodation No Stipend)

Fellowship In Vision Therapy

The Vision therapy fellowship program is 6 month fellowship program designed to provide intensive clinical, teaching and research experience in behavioral and developmental vision care, binocular vision, and vision therapy protocols. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with the diverse population at the orthoptics / Vision therapy clinic and the pediatric clinic. The fellow will also be trained in clinical teaching and research and can teach undergraduate and postgraduate.

Objectives:

  • To observe and understand non-strabismic binocular vision conditions and amblyopia
  • To understand normative values
  • To understand treatment protocol in non-strabismic binocular vision, Amblyopia, Neuro-optometric rehabilitation, developmental children
  • To make appropriate referrals
  • To involve in school screening
Eligibility B.optometry with minimum of one year experience. Candidates will be selected for 6 months fellowship.
No of seats 1 per year
Duration 6 Months

International students:1500 USD

Long term fellowship Main outcome measure: on completion of the course, candidate can
conduct assessments for Basic Binocular Vision and Orthoptics related disorders. Can co
manage Orthoptic disorders along with the Pediatrics Ophthalmology team

Comprehensive Optometry

Long Term Fellowship: 12 months-40000 INR (No Accommodation No Stipend)

The fellowship is an excellent blend of clinical rotation, community, and research. At the end of the training program, the trainee will be able to:

  • Provide excellent comprehensive management of ocular diseases.
  • Manage all the predominant ailments in the subspecialty independently
  • Become an expert in various optometry techniques
  • Be able to publish research papers

Clinical rotation will be in

  1. Community departments
  2. Investigation department
  3. Pediatric department
  4. Sub-specialty optometry- 3 months
Eligibility B.optometry with minimum of one year experience
