Hospital overview
Smt. Lilavatiben Mohanlal Shah (Bilimorawala) Eye Hospital , (popularly known as Rotary Eye Institute) was founded by Rotary Club of Navsari in 1977, a non-profit eye hospital– to provide world-class eye care services. The hospital was started to cater to the other India – the poor and low income families settled in the southern part of Gujarat and bordering tribal areas of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Today Rotary Eye Institute is considered one of the best eye care facilities in India. It has state-of-the-art infrastructure spread across 4-story building with over 75,000 sq.ft. of built up area that houses 50-bed eye hospital with 8 full-equipped Operation Theatres, Eye Bank, Optical Store, Medical Store, Pathology Lab two educational institutes offering bachelor and master degree programs in Optometry and also post graduate program in Ophthalmology (DNB). We also have residential quarters to Doctors – a separate two story building next to the hospital.
REI offers 3600 eye care services – Eye Treatment, Eye Banking, Research, Education, Prevention & Awareness and Rehabilitation. We offer comprehensive eye care services including Cataract, Glucoma, Retina, Cornea, Squint eyes, Laser Eye Treatment, Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL), etc. REI is equipped with latest equipments and machines including: Excimer laser, Lumera I Microscope, Centurian phacoimulsification, Yag – Argon Combi Laser, C3R, Varion, SLT, Automated Perimetry, Vitrectomy and Endolaser, B- scan & A-scan: for posterior segment sonography, Fundus Camera, Photographic Slit Lamp, OCT, etc.
REI organises regular free screening and surgical eye camps at various places across India including Bharuch, Nakhatrana (Bhuj, Kutch), Ambaji (North Gujarat), Shreenathji (Rajasthan), Gangapur (Karnataka) and Haridwar (Uttarakhand).
Since 2005, Rotary Eye Institute has been regularly providing eye care services through free screening and surgical eye camps in Nigeria & Ghana. Till March 2018, REI has made total 13 visits to Nigeria. During these 13 visits, we have screened more than 175,000 patients, operated 15,155 patients and distributed 18,000 spectacles to needy patients.
Till date, Rotary Eye Institute has treated more than three million patients and operated more than 3,16,037 patients, out of which almost 70% are treated free of cost.
